Hi, I’m Katie Hess and I really enjoy being a second grade teacher. I have been teaching for 18 years and have taught kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. I graduated from Millersville University with a Masters degree in early childhood education and also earned a reading specialist certification from Kutztown University. I love integrating purposeful technology and am certified as an Apple Teacher and Google Educator.

My husband and I are the happy parents of our daughter, Mary. We also have three shelter-rescued pets: Remy is a German Shepherd mix, and our two cats are named Miss Kitty and Wasabi. We recently added a Golden Retriever puppy named Sulley to our family. Our classroom has a pet, too! Marshmallow is our crested gecko who loves listening to students read aloud.

One of my favorite things to do is READ!  I also like being outdoors as much as possible and traveling to new places with my family. My favorite animal is the monarch butterfly. Each year, I hand-raise them in my pollinator garden, then release them all summer long. I enjoy sharing my love of monarchs with my students and bringing monarchs to school for students to release!

Here’s a fun fact about me: Several years ago I was a contestant on the TV show “Wheel of Fortune” and I won an exciting trip to Hawaii.
